Video: Daniel Orton Shatters Backboard
With the 29th pick in the NBA Draft last night the Orlando Magic selected Daniel Orton out of the University of Kentucky. Orton (6’10”, 255, 8/6/90) played in all 38 games during his freshman season in Lexington, averaging 3.4 ppg., 3.3 rpg. and 1.39 blkpg. in 13.4 minpg. He helped the Wildcats reach the Elite Eight during the 2010 NCAA Tournament. Orton was widely expected to be off the board by the time the Magic picked and out of the 15 mock drafts that were posted in my Consensus Mock Draft, nobody had Orton to Orlando.
While Orton didn’t put up monster stats at Kentucky, or any at all, he was highly rated coming out of Bishop McGuinness High School in Oklahoma City. Rivals.com ranked him the 22nd best player in the country and he had scholarship offers from Kansas and Oklahoma as well as Kentucky. In the video below, you can even see Billy Donovan sitting courtside checking out Orton’s game.
In this video, Orton leads a fast break ala Jameer Nelson and then MURDERS the backboard before walking off the court cut up from the glass. Best part? The frightened to death cheerleading squad. Could Daniel Orton be next in line to join Shaq and Dwight Howard’s exclusive Orlando Magic Rim Destroyer Club? (Classic Shaq rim rocker below too)
