Magic sign Chris Duhon
ESPN’s Chad Ford is reporting that the Magic have come to an agreement with former Knicks point guard Chris Duhon via his twitter account. Duhon’s agent, Kevin Bradbury, informed ESPN.com and Ford.
Breaking News: The Orlando Magic agree to a 4 year, $15M deal with point guard Chris Duhon.
While this isn’t the Chris that Magic fan’s have been hoping for, it is most likely an upgrade at the backup PG position over Jason Williams. J-Will noticeably faded at the end of the season last year and will be turning 35 in November. As you may remember, Otis Smith pursued Duhon during the summer of 2008, but he chose to sign with New York after the Magic wouldn’t guarantee him a starting position.
Duhon is not a great 3-point shooter (36% career) and is his defense has been relatively poor statistically for the last 3 seasons. However, he has shown a strong ability to lead a team and be a good distributor while maintaing a solid assist-turnover percentage. In his first 3 seasons in Chicago, Duhon had very strong defensive numbers and should be able to pick up his intensity and effectiveness now that he is finally playing with a contender and DPOY Dwight Howard. More to come on this signing, stay tuned!!
