Tracy McGrady’s corpse haunts the Magic as Detroit defeats Orlando at home

January 24, 2011

It was a sluggish night for the Orlando Magic as they were manhandled at home by…

Tracy McGrady? Yes, by Tracy McGrady. Of the Detroit Pistons. No need to refresh the page, this is true.  2011 T-Mac had a 2001 flashback and helped the Detroit Pistons put an end to the Magic’s eight game home winning streak.

The Pistons beat the Magic by a final score of 103-96.  The Magic played little defense all night and when they did, the Pistons refused to miss any shots. The Magic were far too careless with the ball committing 16 turnovers compared to only 5 for Detroit.

The Magic showed a little pulse at the beginning of the 4th quarter, pulling within 4 points.  However, that was as close as it would ever get despite the game remaining in reach for the rest of the time.

Before the game Dwight Howard was named the Eastern Conference Player of the Week for the third time this season and Dwight once again paced the magic in scoring again with 20 points.  Hedo Turkoglu on the other hand, had a night to forget.  Hedo finished with 4 points on 2-8 shooting and never seemed to really care too much about what was going on.  Ryan Anderson led all scorers with 21 points.

Heading into the game, the Magic had been shooting lights out and getting balanced scoring from the entire rotation.  They came back to earth tonight with only 4 players in double figures and shooting 7-27 from three point range.

In the end, it seemed to be nothing more than a random off night in January against a lackluster team.  Also, in the end I was more excited to check out the soft opening of Sky Bar than I was to write this recap.

The Magic are back in action on Wednesday on the road in Indiana.  Tipoff is set for 7pm and the game will be televised locally on Sun Sports.
